What is changing with the Indiana Football season ticket process?
- Ticket prices will now be calculated using a process in which fans pay a straightforward, total investment for each individual seat that includes both the season ticket cost and required donation (also known as the per seat donation). The per seat total is the same, regardless of the number of Football tickets purchased.
Total Season Ticket Price + Per Seat Donation Amount = Total Cost Per Seat
Why is Indiana Athletics adding a per seat donation to season tickets?
- This change is not only part of our efforts to drive revenue in the rapidly-changing world of intercollegiate athletics, but also is consistent with what a large majority of Big Ten (and other Power-4 conference) institutions utilize for their football tickets.
When is Indiana Athletics transitioning to per seat donations for Football tickets?
- The new process will be implemented starting with the 2025-26 athletic season.
What is a Per Seat Donation?
- A per seat contribution is the minimum IU Varsity Club contribution amount per seat that is required to purchase season tickets in designated sections for Football. Please note that a per seat donation is required for all ticket types (public, youth, faculty/staff, etc.).
What does the per seat donation support?
- Per seat donations support the overall Indiana student-athlete experience while helping our teams win conference and national championships. Support will help cover expenses tied to funding for scholarships, facility projects, mental health and nutrition resources, career development, and more for 500+ student-athletes and our 24 sports.
How does this change my annual giving level to the IU Varsity Club
- Per seat donations are contributed to a newly created IU Varsity Club fund. Thus, per seat donations are not combined and/or added to existing Varsity Club annual giving levels. However, per seat donations will contribute to lifetime giving amounts with the IU Varsity Club.
Is my per seat donation tax-deductible?
- The per seat contribution is NOT tax-deductible. This is consistent with the tax law changes from the 2017 Tax Cuts and Jobs Act and how we have processed seat-related donation requirements since that time. Our peer institutions also operate in this same manner. Should the tax law change to allow tax-deductible donation receipts to be issued via the Indiana University Foundation, we will take full advantage of those opportunities for our donors and fans. Gifts to other athletics funds through the Indiana University Foundation remain tax-deductible. As always, please consult your tax professional for tax-related advice.
How and when do I pay for my per seat donation costs?
- Ticket holders will be prompted to pay following selection of their seats in May 2025. You can pay in full following your selection, or take advantage of our two installment payment plan. Please note that those selecting with the help of the IU Ticket Office or within a ticket group will be notified of payment details within two business days of selection.
How many tickets can I purchase?
- At this time, there is no limit on ticket purchases. Should IU Athletics notice unfair ticket-buying practices, this policy may be amended.
What are Priority Points and how do you accumulate them?
- The IU Varsity Club priority point system is intended to promote fairness, reward the loyalty of our long-time supporters, and encourage philanthropic involvement in the Varsity Club. In an effort to equitably serve Varsity Club annual members, the allocation process to determine priority for tickets and parking is based on Priority Points. Priority Points are accrued primarily by consecutive years of season ticket purchases and any philanthropic gift made to Indiana Athletics. As of December 2024, donations made through Hoosiers Connect will also be rewarded with priority points. The priority point system may continue to update with notification to closely support the fundraising needs of Indiana Athletics within the changing landscape of college athletics.
How does the seat selection process work?
- The seat selection process gives season ticket holders the opportunity to select seating based on Priority Points accumulated through philanthropic donations, seat-based contributions, consecutive years being a Varsity Club donor, and season ticket holder loyalty. Each individual season ticket holder will be able to choose their seats based on their cumulative Priority Point total as of March 31, 2025 in an available location that best aligns with what they are interested in (price point, location, etc.).
- The seat selection process is an interactive, online appointment that allows season ticket holders to choose from an interactive 3D venue map that displays virtual views from the seat.
How can I increase my Priority Point total prior to a seat selection?
- In addition to purchasing season tickets, any additional philanthropic athletic gifts, made by March 31, 2025 will increase your priority point ranking. Sign in to your IU Athletics account to view your current point total or make an additional donation to enhance your Varsity Club priority point ranking. Donors and season ticket holders will receive an updated Priority Point statement in April, prior to the start of the seat selection process in May.
What if I want to sit with a specific group of people?
- Ticket holders who wish to sit together must request, in advance, to have their seat selection appointment times joined with other ticket holders. A group delegate must be assigned to select all tickets on behalf of the group. The group’s appointment time will be assigned based on an average of the group members' point totals.
